I never know if it’s my spirit that makes them gather around, giggle and point or my big smile; or perhaps it’s my broken Balinese. Maybe it’s my American-ness… or my brown skin. I think, though, above all, it is my Spirit. I love it here and it shows. People come out of their homes to offer me welcome, food, drink, laughs. I return their warmth with smiles, grace, gratitude. This is a good world in which we live. It is sometimes hard to remember this in the light of some of our messes. But the light shines brightest where the heart is most open.
